In addition to this though, Heine hails from a city somewhere in Europe. There isn't exactly a specific time frame, but it's advanced enough that they have those old school telephones but have television? The DOGS world is weird, guys. It's also set up into a world where drugs, sex, gang wars and lawlessness exist everywhere. Did we mention genetic experiments, splicing and test tube babies galore? No? Well there's some of that too. It's split into an "Above" world and the "Underground" with a subway system that allows for easy transport between areas. The "Above" world houses the rich though so don't expect many of the underground dwellers to surface very often.

History:
Most of Heine's history is shrouded in darkness. His earliest memory is waking up in an underground test facility with a 'collar' around his neck and after that, it's sad to say that his life didn't get much better. The 'collar' was placed there by one Angelika Einsturzen, and with this collar came some less than cheery abilities. Heine's body was fused with a 'spine' that gifted him with enhanced ability. He was stronger, faster and it essentially gave him regenerative powers that prevented him from dying unless he was shot in the head (but even that's debatable). There in the test facility, he and other 8 to 9 year old test subjects like him, were pitted against monsters and each other to see how well these operations and mutations fared. This became to be known as the "Kerberos Project". There he met Lily, his "sister" and Giovanni, his "brother". The three, from what can be seen in the flashbacks, were relatively closer to each other than they were with the other test subjects. Despite not knowing the outside world, all the children knew that the whole process of 'killing, sleeping, eating and then repeat' wasn't right. They could get glimpses of memories of the world above and they quickly planned an escape from the facility. This proved difficult, however, considering the amount of security there was and how ever watchful Dr. Einsturzen, their "mother", was (which actually turned out to be a fitting term seeing as he had been a product of her genes).

Unfortunately, one day, Heine was called to the private room of the doctor and was offered a chance to become stronger than he already was. That is to say, stronger than the rest of the test subjects involved. Heine agreed and was immediately implanted with the Ruler spine instead of the Kerberos spine. The abilities that this spine gave him were much the same but magnified and he was also given the power to instill leadership over all the soldiers that she had made and was yet to create. There are hint plots at this point, about Einsturzen and Neubauten about making Heine into the leader of the 'Dead Country,' something that the two were no doubt plotting to put into action.

Once fused with the Ruler spine, this is when Heine really meets his Kerberos and for a lack of a better term, loses control sending him into a berserk frenzy. Einsturzen shows him to the new test subjects, claiming that since he's the Ruler, they won't be needing them anymore. Predictably, all of the other test subjects, save for Giovanni, are massacred and when Heine comes to, he's sitting on top of Lily's mangled body with the other corpses of his friends littered around him. Fun, right? After this little scene, Heine develops an extreme fear of women and he'd do anything in his power not to have any physical contact with them whatsoever.

Heine escapes from the test facility somehow (PLOT HOLE!) and ends up emerging in the Above world. There, he's taken under the care of Bishop who helps his recovery process. At some point down the line, Heine meets Badou Nails who becomes his heterosexual partner for life partner when it comes to dealing with odd jobs around the city that mostly involve information collecting and 'persuading'. The two have very different personalities and it's difficult to say what brought them together or why they're still working together at all, but their dynamic works and neither seems to be hurrying to change it any time soon. Heine has his reasons and it's unlikely that he'll ever tell anyone them because they're his reasons alone.

Somewhere between leaving a trail of blood, running into shenanigans with Badou and trying to find a way back into the Underground, Heine encounters Nill. In an uncharacteristic act of kindness, he saves her from some thugs and after saving her, brings her to Bishop to take care of her. It is important to note, that she is the first female after his experience with Lily, to have touched him without him having a panic attack or letting Kerberos take over. He's become somewhat attached to her, but again, the reasoning behind it is for him to know although many have speculated. All anyone really needs to know is that if they mess with Nill, it's highly likely that an angry Heine will follow.

Giovanni ends up making a reappearance in his life shortly after and soon enough, Heine ends up caught up in the Underground world that he more or less fought tooth and nail to get away from. People connected to Dr. Einsturzen and his past also crop up, and at the end of chapter six, Heine has encountered Naoto, someone whose past is also connected to the doctor. Shortly after this, Badou, Heine and Naoto more or less end up teaming up, or at the very least begin sticking around each other. The next set of characters that they meet, are another pair of genetically modified twins named Luki and Noki who address him quite plainly as "big brother" and a fight simply ensues because they're 'bored'. Heine ends up having the opportunity to kill one of them but stops when he realizes that they're also products of genetic modification and he just can't bring himself to do it. Badou ends up breaking up the tension though because he runs out of patience and cigarettes.

Bit by bit, Heine's past catches up to him and he learns that Bishop had been hiding something from him the entire time as well. Bishop wasn't his real name; it was simply one he went by. His true name was Ernest Rammsteiner and he too was an experiment. Heine was understandably pissed that someone he trusted had lied to him but they had little time to fight over this fact when other more important matters were at hand.

Trains end up crashing and a huge fight breaks out with a whole bunch of mutated soldiers from Underground and look! A wild Giovanni appears in front of Heine again to do battle! Giovanni confirms the worst news: Einsturzen is planning something for the above world and her plans are quickly put into action starting right then and there. The fighting comes to a stand still when the mutated soldiers all blow up simultaneously all over the city causing massive damage and Heine at the end of it all is still gripped by the power of Cerberus. It takes Naoto's quick slap to the head to wake him up and surprisingly he doesn't flinch away from her. The city goes into clean up mode and the mysterious mayor of the city is revealed because apparently no one has ever seen his face. Yeah. I don't know either guys. Heine finally tells people about his past in the labs and about his connection to Lily and Giovanni, but the sad times don't last very long because Magato ends up showing up to apparently draw out Cerberus but their fight is cut short by the appearance of one of Einsturzen's clones.

The canon point Heine will be coming from will be shortly after returning to the church after realizing that Einsturzen is going after Nill. He'll be in a bit of frenzy because he still hasn't found out if she's safe or not.

Personality:
Heine, to put it very bluntly, is an asshole. He's rude to most people, if not everyone with a few minor exceptions and he in general doesn't tend to get along with people. While he is an introvert, that doesn't mean that he's shy in the least bit - he just doesn't really care what others think about him and he gets by just fine without friends in his life. He can be frustratingly apathetic, snarky and unsympathetic to a point, and he honestly would have walked right past Nill in that alleyway if he hadn't seen the wings on her back. It's also likely that he wouldn't have felt an ounce of regret or guilt. Even then, getting Heine to care is another hurdle all in itself. Those who try and get past that exterior and become even casual acquaintances with him are brushed off, ignored or insulted until they leave. Unfortunately, many who do gain his trust also have to suffer through the same behavior.

None of this behavior comes from a high self esteem though. Heine is a horribly damaged person thanks to his past. He thinks he's a monster and his trust issues stem from his past when he put trust in several individuals in the laboratory and was let down. Normal relationships, a normal life, a normal anything don't seem like things that he deserves because of the monster in his head that he can't always control and there's a lot of self-loathing going on underneath the apathy. Blood of people that he cared about still stains his hands and the last thing he wants to do is let anyone get close enough to him for that to happen again. The monster inside him is referred to as "Cerberus" and he's the blood thirsty, rude and most likely psychotic. He doesn't tend to appear unless Heine is on the brink of death or dead, in which case he'll make an appearance and pull him back violently into the living world again. Cerberus tends to show up in particularly stressful situations as well, which usually involve his past somehow.

Violence tends to be the answer to most of the questions in Heine's life. While Cerberus is the extreme of this, Heine also doesn't see a problem in using guns and bullets to solve problems. This isn't to say that he's trigger happy and would go on a killing spree just because he's bored, but he'll certainly have no qualms about shooting someone if they're in his way whether it be his own personal reasons or if he's on a job. If he's caught in the middle of a gun fight, the possibility of Heine stressing out or freaking out is low. Being a mercenary, this skill tends to come in handy. He'll shoot, maim/kill anyone as long as he's paid and anyone that can kind of stand don't usually appear on his kill list anyway. It's almost scary how eerily calm he can be in a fight - he might even toss around a few dry jokes if he's in the mood. Nothing really tends to faze Heine with the exception of his past. Oh, and women. Women also tend to make him panic. As mentioned before, because of his traumatic experience ripping Lily apart with his own hands coupled with his hatred of Angelika, Heine developed an extreme case of gynophobia. Women can't come within 5 feet of him without him stiffening and getting visibly anxious. He can speak to them, but he's normally a lot ruder to them than he is to others and you don't even want to know what would happen if they touched him. It normally doesn't end very well and it involves extreme headaches and flashbacks of that time involving Lily.

Despite all of his faults and Heine's very rough exterior, he is capable of caring. The few who can make it past his bark and bite, find themselves in a strange kind of relationship with him. Heine may hate getting attached to people, but there's no mistaking that he does (e.g. Nill and Badou) and when that occurs, he tends to care about them in his own way. Not being one for words or feelings though, his caring will often go unnoticed because he won't verbally say anything about it. Anyone that he does invest some emotional attachment with though can except him to try and take care of them in a really round about way. His relationship with Badou isn't exactly the best example of that because he tends to leave Badou in life or death situations to get out of himself, but then again, his friendship with Badou is a very, very special one. He knows where his debts have to be repaid and if you scratch his back, he'll scratch yours in one way or another (e.g. When Naoto slaps him out of his Cerberus induced hold/stopping him from going berserk, he later returns the favour when she's under the control of one of Angelika's clones). Heine can be a fantastic friend - it'll just take people a very long time to get to that point and even then, expect him to grumble and huff the entire way through.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
The majority of Heine's weaknesses come from his psyche. Crushing his skull is the only way to kill him successfully considering that even a bullet to his head wouldn't do anything. It has recently come to light (Chapter 73) that something Angelika has dubbed "Inugami" or "Dog's Bite" is something like a poison to any host body that possess a "spine". It must be stabbed right through the "spine" itself to truly kill off the host, but otherwise it greatly damages the body (ie: blood doesn't stop flowing, wounds heal considerably slower than normal). The only known source of this lies in Naoto's sword which was crafted from specially tempered metal. Although it hasn't really been used in canon, his eyes and their inability to handle light could also be considered a weakness.

Thanks to the Ruler spine, Heine has enhanced speed, strength, reflexes, endurance and senses. It has given him the ability for regeneration meaning that any wounds or damage that his body suffers from will be healed almost immediately; he can essentially come back from the brink of death although his body will still hurt from the damage. He's skilled in both hand-to-hand combat but he does prefer his guns to anything else. Be warned though that if he does turn berserk, Heine has been known to fight dirty and literally rip people limb from limb with his own hands. Or his teeth. Yeah, he's bitten a part of a guy's face off. What can you do though? He can get creative if he can't use his guns.

In regards to his ability to come back from the brink of death, maybe some kind of (additional?) penalty could be implemented on him personally? It's a part of his canon and something that Cerberus refuses to let him do in canon so I'm not sure how taking it away completely would play out in-game.

Inventory: His weapons of choice are a Mauser C96 pistol attached to chain that he can also use to strangle people at close range as well as a black Luger P08 pistol. They're on his person at all times.
Appearance: The first thing you'll notice off the bat? He's albino meaning he comes as the whole package: white hair, pale skin and red eyes. Standing at about 5'9", he's thin without an inch of fat on his body whatsoever but don't take that to mean that he's weak. Heine is incredibly fit and can go a few rounds without tiring. His left ear is pierced three times and his right has four piercings. Heine's often seen wearing industrial-type clothing that includes leathers, buckles, chains etc. and he can sometimes be seen wearing shades because of his sensitive eyes. The most notable feature though, will be the bandage that he wears around his neck. These cover up the collar plate and scars that run the length of his spine.
Age: Early 20's. If we're going for specific though, we'll say...22?

Log Sample:
It was almost strange how Heine could be so comfortable in the dark at times. He figured it was because so much of his life was already engulfed in it, both figuratively and literally that he had come to accept it. He had come to accept for what it was (but that still didn't stop him from not sleeping at night to escape the nightmares the plagued his mind) and he had also come to partly accept it as the only thing he would be worthy of.

This darkness was not something he could ever become used to though. He jolted from his unconsciousness to a world blurred by fluid and immediately became aware of the breathing tube stuffed down his neck. Survival instincts kicked in, and he gagged, clawing and grappling at the breathing device shoved down his throat. His movement became more and more wild when images suddenly began flashing in his mind (a stark white medical room, blinding lights, shadowy figures looming overhead, pain, screams - his sceams and locks of blonde hair tumbling down coupled with a smile that made him see red). As the thrashing and clawing continued, his vision began to blur, more images assaulting him (a younger Giovanni, and a blonde girl with a carefree smile, unmarred by the psychotic berserker behaviour that was both his and her demon, monsters tossing mangled doll-like bodies across an arena-like room, more shadowed figures standing in the wings above watching, observing and entertained. And finally, blood staining his hands and his clothes and his hair and the image of the blonde girl from before with lifeless eyes as he held pieces of her body in his hands) until he couldn't be sure what his reality and his mind were. He could feel Cerberus stir inside him, and he knew he had to keep a hold of himself and stay there in the present. He struggled to keep in the present, keep calm but he didn't think that -

Relief flooded his body when the breathing apparatus was removed from his throat and his hands stopped, going to catch him as he sunk to his knees breathing heavily while the fluid began to drain around him. He sat there, hunched over trying to regain his composure and his breath. His hand was shaking as it went to touch the back of his neck, feeling the cold metal of what remained of the collar before it went to cover his eyes. He pressed his palm into his eyes, willing away and burying the memories that he didn't want to think about and it was only when they were gone that he removed his hand and opened his eyes.

The room he was in didn't help. It was sterile and cold but at least it wasn't the rooms from his memory but it wasn't something familiar either. His eyes darted over everything taking in the surroundings until they came to rest on his forearm. His eyes widened in recognition ("Unit 67....Lily....Lily.....Lily.") and clouded over in anger in a matter of seconds and soon his hand was on his flesh tearing at it until he drew enough blood to obscure the tattooed number on his arm.

Heine never claimed to know all the mysteries of the world (but why would he? There was so much useless information that he didn't need to bother himself with) but there were several things he did know in that moment: He was going to find Nill (because if he was here, then she had to be here too, right?) and when he found Nill and knew that she was okay, he was going to find the person who tattooed the sick joke on his arm and rip them limb from limb until all they saw was red and black.

Comms Sample:
[There's a huge crash from the device and a shaky video image of a white-haired young man seemingly destroying the locker room that he has appeared in. He lets out a roar of frustration and anger and the video shakes one more time as he punches the locker right beside his making a visible dent. His back is to the camera and although he's wearing the issued pants, his back is bare, revealing something that looks like a collar around his neck as well as a series of scars that go down his spine. He can perhaps be heard muttering between his breaths a word, perhaps a particular name of a blonde, mute girl with wings, but it's too quiet and too guttural to really make heads or tails of.

He breathes heavily and anger practically radiates out of his body. It takes a moment before he whirls around revealing a set of red eyes that carry the same anger, and perhaps something that can be considered panic. The collar from before is revealed to be broken and the same scars circle his throat. His right forearm is bloodied and scratched as if someone had clawed at it, but underneath the dried blood, anyone will be able to tell that that's where his tattooed number lies. As people watch, they'll see that the scratches are slowly healing over, and soon it will be like they were never there at all.

His eyes go straight to the communication device and his teeth are bared in a snarl.]

Whoever is in charge of this place better start talking, because this?

[He motions to his arm, and indeed, the scratches from before are gone and the tattoo can be seen from underneath the blood.]

This is practically asking me to tear your vocal chords out until you can't scream anymore. So start talking because this isn't a fucking joke.
